The impact of home office on companies

After more than a year of pandemic and social distancing, home office has a new status: it has gone from being an alternative to a reality. According to the IBGE, in August 2020, 8.3 million people were working from home, with 46% of companies adopting this modality. For home office to work, it is necessary to have good internet access and a reliable electricity supply, in addition to other factors.

This ease of remote work has also influenced people to move to places further away from large centers. Even so, the need for a more complete infrastructure, with internet, electricity, basic sanitation is present, but it needs to be complemented by other services, such as schools, hospitals, public safety, all to keep people living in these places permanently.

Despite listing the many good aspects of home office, there are still doubts about this work modality. For example, how to deal with the sense of belonging of company employees during the period of distancing? The lack of physical presence in the workplace is one of the factors that can end up affecting the organizational culture of companies. That is why adopting hybrid work is one of the alternatives to solve this type of problem that arose during social isolation.

Home office was one of the alternatives, if not the main one, to keep companies running, except for exceptions that cannot take advantage of this option. Around 35% of business owners intend to maintain this type of work in the near future. But what will home office be like after the pandemic? Will many companies still adopt this work modality? Claudio Hermolin, CEO of Primaz, answers: “The number of companies that will continue to work from home, even after the pandemic, may not be that significant. Unfortunately, in a country with so many inequalities and infrastructure problems, the number of people who will continue to work from home after the pandemic will be small.”
